JEROME PEDRO got it correct

A three-phase un-grounded circuit with ABC rotation is connected to a resistive load as shown below.

Ra, Rb and Rc are each 22.5 ohms. Voltage Vc Fails open. A volt meter is placed as shown below to determine the voltage.

What will the voltmeter read?
Answer to nearest tenth.

  1. The wye connected load will experience single phasing and the phase voltage will become half the line voltage. The line current at line C will be zero and Ra and Rb will be series or 2R.
    Iline=Vline/2(R)=Vphase/R. Therefore, Vphase=Vline/2
    so the voltage will read 50VRMS.

  2. The voltage between Line a and b is 173.21 V (100 * sqrt(3)). It is a three phase system. Ra and Rb act as a voltage divider and so the voltage measured is 86.6 V (100*sqrt(3) * 0.5) )

  3. With loss of phase this becomes a single phase circuit. KVL the loop. V1=(100 <0) Vx= I2R V2= (100<-120) I= ( (100 <0) – (100 <-120))/(2×22.5). IR= V(199.74 <12.57)
